Comedy At The Laundry Matt The Next Generation: Comedy On A Bus
Back when I heard about comedy at a laundry matt, I kind of understood. There’s nothing to do. So, who wouldn’t want to see a great stand-up comedy show when they are a captive audience? Then I saw what kind of comics got booked there. Some were excellent and people would drop their laundry baskets and folded clothes to listen to the next up and coming Cosbys. Then, a few would ruin it and go haywire on bodily function material at a 6pm show. When children are all over the place, you need to keep it a little clean, especially when most of them are under eight. But the concept was a great idea, even if the execution was usually poor. Now in Santa Monica, the city has traveled down a similar path. The next time you hop on the bus to cruise down Ocean Avenue, you might experience more than a convenient trip from point A to point B. Thanks to the comic talents of Santa Monica resident Chris Gehrt, you might also hear some stand-up comedy in transit. Gehrt, 32, is part of Transit TV Comedy, an effort by the Los Angeles Transit Authority to make the time spent on public transportation both enjoyable and entertaining. "They wanted to showcase local L.A. and Santa Monica people by putting stand-up comedy on there," Gehrt said to the Santa Monica Daily Press. "I'm just hoping they're laughing, not rolling their eyes." While I can’t find any similar job ops posted at the Los Angeles Transit authority’s website, let’s hope some open up soon.
