The Birmingham Comedy Festival Hits UK In October

Sometimes comedy has been in your backyard for years without making its presence known. The Birmingham Comedy Festival is a largely unknown comedy festival with a ten year history. This year, Armstrong and Miller, Ross Noble and Rich Hall will be the top comedians appearing on the paybill. The full line up was announced yesterday; it features a total of 70 shows which will run from October 1st to October 10th. Other familiar names include Mark Watson, Stewart Francis and Milton Jones. Last year Michael McIntrye challenged Lee Evans as the UK's biggest stand-up act with a three-night engagement. In addition to stand-up comedy, this year’s festival will also feature pub quizzes, films, art exhibitions, magic and cabaret across 22 venues in Birmingham.

Dave Freak founded the festival in 2000 with original partners including The GAG Club's Rich Batsford, Janice Connolly, The Glee Club, ComedyKav's James Cook, John Simmit, Simon from That's The Badger and the Midland Arts Centre. Birmingham is considered the home of a vibrant yet unsung comedy scene. Despite the quality of acts appearing at the many clubs, media coverage has been limited. The ten-year comedy festival was created as the best way to raise the profile of comedy within the city and surrounding area. The festival is not limited by stand-up comedy. It strives to challenge and inspire. The line up is open to includes theatre, workshops, new talent nights, club nights, classical music, dance, book readings, visual arts and events for children.
